BEST TIME TO TRAVEL

South Africa has a lovely temperate climate with hot summers, mild winters, AND GLORIOUS SPRING AND AUTUMS IN BETWEEN.

While South Africa has four, very distinctive seasons; it can be said that one can experience all four seasons in one day in Cape Town. When near the ocean or on the mountain, weather can change drastically or differ quite a lot from the rest of the city so always pack for warm and cool weather and also check weather conditions before you come and also before you head out for the day.

Winter (May to August)

Across South Africa’s game reserves, winter signals the dry season and happens to be the best time to go on safari. Days are mild with plenty of sunshine, however, temperatures often drop in the early mornings and evenings – so pack a warm clothing, warm jacket and a rain mac. You may very well experience rain in Cape town on their crisp, chilly days.

Summer (December to March)

Cape Town is best in the summer months between December and March. Temperatures can spike well into the 30° Celsius range (perfect beach weather!). Summer is the dry season in Cape Town and sees most international visitors flocking to the sunshine and beaches, however, it is the wet season in South Africa’s game reserves.

Summer rains usually come down in short afternoon thunderstorms, and the landscapes turn lush and green. The South African sun is exceptionally harsh so make sure you wear adequate sunblock as well as a hat when in the sun especially when the sun is at its harshest between 11-3pm.
